Boarding Disadvantages

The Disadvantages of Boarding Your Dog at a Kennel

Dogs who spend most of their time in their own home around their masters may become anxious when they are in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, scents, and sounds, and a change in daily routine may cause undue stress to a nervous dog. He may refuse to eat or play while he is boarded.

AAA K9 only accept incoming boarders in the morning (before 12.00 pm Mon – Sat or 10.00 am Sun). This is so our staff can monitor and minimize any stress related problems on the first day of arrival.

If you believe your dog may have some social issues it is good to discuss these with one of our AAA K9 dog carers, as they may have some suggestions to assist in helping your dog cope with any stress issues whilst boarding.

Some boarding kennels may expose your pet to microorganisms that cause health problems. Canine Cough is one that is common. We have named Canine Cough because it is easily transferred from one animal to another in close quarters. A stressed dog will have a lowered immune response, making him even more susceptible to viruses and other illnesses.

At AAAK9 we need to make sure your dog’s immunizations are current and up to date before leaving him at our boarding kennel. This will minimize the chances of infection, but remember your dog is in a social environment.
